When the team at ShopRite of Greater Morristown, or Village Supermarket as you might know it, reached out to us, they had a clear goal: make their stunning solarium space more usable and comfortable for customers year-round.

The Challenge: A Beautiful Space That Wasn’t Usable
If you’ve shopped at the Village Supermarket before, then you’ve likely seen the glass solarium that offers a bright, open atmosphere for customers to dine and relax. But there was a major drawback, this sun-drenched space would trap heat even in winter, making it uncomfortable and virtually unusable for much of the year.
The Solution: Tailored Shade Systems That Work Hard
To reclaim this valuable real estate, we installed a combination of indoor/outdoor tension systems and retractable solar shades designed for maximum performance. The custom setup included KE Outdoor Design’s Pinnacle horizontal retractable shading system, which was paired with motorized controls from Somfy and outfitted with Phifer Textilene fabric—known for its durability and solar performance.
The Pinnacle system was ideal, due to its ability to retract horizontally, cover large projections, and perform in higher winds made it the top choice. Bonus: it can be installed freestanding with or without posts, offering maximum design versatility. And in cases like this where pergolas, skylights, or retractable glass roofs need targeted protection without additional structural supports, the Pinnacle Two model is a perfect fit. It mounts directly to existing structures, eliminating the need for front legs while providing exceptional horizontal sun control.
The Result: A Year-Round Convertible Environment
The once-overheated solarium is now a fully functional, comfortable space all year long. Whether the sun is high in the sky or setting low in the evening, the shade system adapts in real-time, blocking glare, controlling temperature, and elevating the customer experience.
